Just yesterday (Dec. 9) I wrote about the Kovrig/Spavor cases, noting that the deadline for the police to forward the case to the procuracy must have just about arrived. In a Dec. 10 press conference, government spokesperson Hua Chunying announced that the cases had indeed been forwarded to the procuracy.
According to Art. 172 of the Criminal Procedure Law (as most recently amended Oct. 26, 2018), the procuracy now has one month (with an extension of another 15 days possible) to decide on whether or not to bring the case to court:
人民检察院对于监察机关、公安机关移送起诉的案件,应当在一个月以内作出决定,重大、复杂的案件,可以延长十五日
