New book: The People’s Republic of the Disappeared

Here’s a summary and review in the New York Times of an important new book, The People’s Republic of the Disappeared. It has foreword by Teng Biao, who knows a bit about the subject. The book is about the practice of “residential surveillance at a designated location” (also known as “non-residential residential surveillance”), a form of incommunicado detention favored by the Chinese authorities for political targets.
