Jerome Cohen’s memoirs, chapter 2

Just about anyone reading this blog will know that Jerry Cohen is one of the founders of Chinese law studies in the United States. He’s lately been working on his memoirs, and now Chapter 2 is available. He says it is “on how I started studying Chinese law at Berkeley from 1960 to 1963, my first three years of being a student of China.”

Chapter 1, on “how I made the difficult but exciting decision to study China when it seemed to offer an unpromising career 57 years ago,” will be published in vol. 53 of the Chinese (Taiwan) Yearbook of International Law and Affairs; it’s now available in Chinese at the FT Chinese website here.
